In addition to the offer presented for students in grades IV–VIII of primary school, which we can adapt to the curriculum of secondary schools, we also propose the following topics for high school and technical school students.
Motifs and Symbols in Art
“Vanity of vanities, all is vanity!” But is everything truly meaningless? Vanitas is just one of the themes we will explore during this session. How did artists depict childhood, and how did they portray nature? Why does Malczewski paint himself holding corn cockle in his hand? Together, we will uncover the richness of motifs and symbols immortalized on canvas.
Between East and West
How were Christ and Mary depicted in iconography? What is a Deesis, and what is a tabernacle? How can we recognize saints in religious art? We will decipher the secrets of Orthodox church paintings and immerse ourselves in the atmosphere of Eastern Christian worship.
History Painted with a Brush
Can painters faithfully depict historical events in Poland’s past? What sources did artists once rely on when creating their visions of history? And did they truly refrain from adding their own commentary or even deliberately distorting reality? We will attempt to answer these questions by analyzing selected works of art and their historical contexts.
Modern Art – Socialist Realism and Avant-garde
During this session, we will discuss art as a tool of propaganda and the avant-garde’s innovative perspective on the form and function of postwar art. We will explore these topics through the works of painters from the Lublin-based “Zamek” Group.
The Prison on the Castle
During this lesson, we will recall that a Renaissance castle once stood on Castle Hill, where the Union of Lublin was signed. Additionally, for 128 years, the site functioned as a prison—we will trace its history from the time of the partitions, through the Nazi occupation, and into the years of communism.
