What is known about the prehistory of our region? Who were its first inhabitants? You will find answers to these and many other questions by visiting the archaeological exhibition Tracing the Past. The Ancient History of the Lublin Region.
Fully multimedia, the largest permanent archaeological exhibition in the Lublin region was made available to visitors in 2013. We present over 3,100 selected archaeological monuments from our region from the period between 200,000 BC and 1250 CE. They are exhibited according to the classical division into three eras, clearly differentiated at the exhibition through the usage of means of artistic expression, including colours. The most important issues concerning prehistory and the early Middle Ages are presented in problem blocks. The original monuments are accompanied by multimedia presentations specially created for the purposes of the exhibition, including films and animations, the total length of which is over an hour. They tell about prehistoric manufacturing processes, funeral rituals, the most interesting monuments and archaeological sites. The unique atmosphere of the exhibition is created by the method of illumination and the played soundtracks, specially prepared for individual epochs. An integral part of the exhibition are models of archaeological objects, as well as life-size reconstructions of houses, cemeteries, graves and realistically presented figures from the past. The clothing of the figures and their physical features were developed on the basis of the available archaeological, iconographic and written sources. They are equipped with reconstructed monuments, and their elements of clothing, tools and weapons are copies of the original exhibits presented in showcases.
